USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LIBRARY IN MM UGM YOGYAKARTA
INTRODUCTION
The development of information technology has given a very broad impact for the library world. The presence of facilities and infrastructure in the form of information processing hardware and software requires libraries to overhaul its system works both internally and externally in an effort to provide services to users.
Library as an information center for all users on information technology this century. The library serves as the central institution of science in both the business, labor, academia and government. For that libraries are required to constantly improve the quality of care.
To simplify information services is not only limited to the library itself, but also can be accessed from outside the library, information is not only packaged in book form but also other forms of more informative. With the help of information technology services library information can be easily targeted towards the required information. The availability of complete information is essential in the college environment to realize the Tri Dharma Higher Education that includes education, research and community service.
The development of information technology in many other electronic or print media whether the rapidly growing electronic library that can be realized, the Internet electronic documents and web sites. With the media that such information can be more quickly absorbed and to the user in the world.
Library evolved from time to time and from age to age. The new media in the form of digitization of information resources the library is a manifestation and effort in order to provide services for library users to favor and take advantage of the existence of libraries in accordance with the conditions of the rapidly growing age currently in the field of information technology.
Library collection that had long will easily weathered and damaged. With advances in science and technology library is transformed into digital form, it will keep many people are interested in the actual collection was no longer feasible. Of course the collection of new books and new information that is stored in the form of electronic media to facilitate the access to information, information transfer and exchange of information from different locations and different times.
Application of IT in the library should be observed indeed in particular (avoid Purnomo: 2002). This is not only because of need and a large, but also about human resources and environmental aspects.
Library MM UGM to further maximize services for its users have formed the digitization of library and utilize information technology to facilitate searching by users.
A. BACKGROUND
In preparing this report the authors take the theme of Utilization of Information Technology in the Library MM UGM on the basis that:
1. Library MM UGM not utilize information technology to disseminate information to the user who wants to searching from afar
According to the writer's observation, digital libraries MM UGM able to build information systems remotely. This is supported by the existence of human resources and information technology control operational costs.
2. Demands the user to be able to search the information in libraries MM UGM from great distances
3. In the future, UGM will implement a system of inter-library network and library UPT UGM as its center. For that, all libraries in UGM must use information systems connected
4. Electronic virtual library with a collection of diverse and fast process that requires libraries to be able to properly manage electronic library
B. THEOLOGICAL PROBLEMS
From the background that has the writer described above, then the formulation of the problem which can be formulated by the author include:
1. The extent to which the utilization of information technology in libraries MM UGM?
2. Any use of information technology in libraries MM UGM?
C. PURPOSE
The author's intent to MM UGM street vendors in the library are:
1. To compare the theory gained during the lecture with the reality on the ground
2. To see firsthand the activities that occur in libraries MM UGM
3. To know the world of work directly
While the purpose of the writer take the theme of the utilization of information technology in the electronic library is:
1. To determine the extent of utilization of information technology in libraries MM UGM
2. To add insight and knowledge about information technology writer
3. To compare theory with its application of information technology in libraries MM UGM

The author hopes that this thesis can be useful for:

E. DATA COLLECTION METHOD
In data collection, the author uses several methods:
1. Literature Study
The study of literature is a study conducted to study and examine the books or reading material that is more closely related to the scope of the problem or discussed (Arikunto, 1997:33)
The author takes from textbooks, newsletters, journals and academic works
2. Observation
Namely direct observations about the things that happen in the environment (Arikunto, 1993:202)
Authors performed direct observation during the writers do street vendors in the library MM UGM
3. Interview
The interview is the process of questioning that took place in the research orally in two or more people ask and then listen directly or information (Nabuka and Ahmadi, 1997:83)
To obtain accurate data, the authors conducted interviews to the librarian at the library MM UGM
4. Documentation
Ie data collection method which is based on objects such as books, magazines, documents and so on (Arikunto, 1998: 144)
F. TIME AND PLACE PKL
The author did Practice Field at MM UGM library courses starting February 16 until March 16 with office hours Monday-Friday from 07:00 to 16:00 o'clock pm
